Yūyake
an original, fantasy based verse open to all.
LORE.
Years 0 — 99.
the Kingdom of Yūyake was first established 1327 years ago; by the existing Royal Family at the time, and barely a few thousand citizens. One settlement was developed, later blossoming into dozens more, throughout the century. Since establishment, the Royal Family has not changed, and the earliest settlers are remembered solely through books documenting history.
Yūyake entered it’s first large scale conflict against a western, human Empire hardly eighty years after the kingdom’s establishment. During this, the kingdom’s forces were vastly outnumbered, yet they did not lose. Unlike those from the east, those fighting for Yūyake possessed animalistic traits, pushing them past the capabilities of regular human beings. This war, however, cost the life of the Kingdom’s second King; a blow still not forgotten by the country’s citizens.
the war itself, however, met an unexpected end. Legends tell of a cataclysmic, wolf-like DemiHuman - one that singlehandedly eradicated the two sides. After decimating both opposing forces, the creature disappeared, and was later seen only during times of warfare. Whilst years ticked by and wars were fought, this ‘Demon’ continued to appear on battlefields, wiping out those engaging in battle, before once again disappearing. With every appearance, the level of it’s power became increasingly evident, and startling connections to ancient mythology were made. There was every possibility that this being was the same creature which once hunted the Divine - thought to have been slain years ago.
Years 100 — 199.
This brutal cycle of war ended by slaughter continued on, until 712 years ago.
the ‘Demon’ had made yet another appearance - only this time around, there was a knight capable of standing up to them, and fighting back. They were regarded as the strongest warrior the Kingdom had ever seen, and, despite it costing them their life, managed to strike the creature. Whilst it was scarcely a graze, it supplied all the information that was needed. The monster could bleed. And if it could bleed, it could die.
following this event, the Royal Family took action. Putting into act a countrywide adventurers guild, warriors were ‘cultivated’ and developed, in the desperate hope that they would prove to be effective opponents against the ‘Demon’ plaguing their battlefields. A strict ranking system was set in place, and the thirteenth rank, Orichalcum, was the estimated level that the knight capable of damaging the Demon was at. Four further ranks beyond Orichalcum were created, the highest being Luralchium. This guild acted as one would expect. Requests from civilians were taken in and distributed to appropriately ranked adventurers, and an individual would rise in rank after accomplishing certain feats. Any adventurer to rise into Orichalcum or above were directly spoken to by the current overseer of the Guild, and notified of the ‘true’ purpose of the guild. Wether or not they would join the cause of striking the Demon was, and still is, entirely optional, but few have ever declined.
Years 200 — 699.
the year 627 was the final large scale conflict Yūyake would ever experience, up until the present day. In the season of winter, the Westen Empire carried an all out invasion on the country, though was inevitably unsuccessful. The presence and aid of even a pair of Luralchium class adventurers were more than enough to turn the tide of battle and allow the Kingdom to claim victory. Alas, it could only last for so long - as towards a seeming end to the battle, the Wolf appeared. In total, there were eight adventurers of the Orichalcum class or higher engaging in the ensuing combat, though only one made it out alive through what came next. Those of lower ranks were eliminated the earliest - unable to keep up with the others, they fell. In time, only a single warrior of the Luralchium class remained - and whilst they too provided an incredible display, the Wolf was left to stand over the bloodied corpse of an opponent capable of trading blows.following this conflict, a bloody streak of war between the Empire and Yūyake came to and end. The presence of both the Wolf and increasingly dangerous combatants on either side seemed to dissuade any further combat.
Years 700 — 1327.
the current King was crowned in the year 1298 after his father’s passing, and has since resigned over Yūyake. In 1327, the Princess would be born, followed by the first Prince four years later, and second Prince two years after that. Having remained in power to the present day, the king’s health has begun to waver and fears of his death are rising. Regardless, he is yet to succumb to illness nor age, and continues to rule.
Characters.
this segment is currently a work in progress - cataloguing every character I’ve made for the verse isn’t easy, unfortunately.
Magic.
Yūyake is a fantasy, high-magic verse - because of this, just about anyone and everyone has the capability to tap into magic. they /can/ access magic, though there are reasons as to why many do not.most humanoid creatures possess magical circuitry within their bodies, through which mana must flow. unfortunately, due to centuries of certain races neglecting its use, these circuits have closed - or even disappeared completely. regarding demihumans, their circuitry is merely closed up - and if an individual wishes to open them, it is quite the process. first of all, they must first discern which element they wish to harness - and attempt to evoke a spell again, and again, and again. over time, their circuits will be forcefully opened back up - though this process can take weeks, if not months or even years to fully accomplish. on top of this, the process as a whole is excruciatingly painful - it is as if someone is pouring acid through your veins, some would say.this is, however, the first of many steps - as once the ability to use magic has been gained, one must next learn how harness it.in this world, Magic is separated into three ‘Forms’ - First through Third. First Form magic is your standard, incantation using spell - “fireball” will call forth a blaze of flame, whilst “ice” will summon a burst of ice. rather on the nose, First Form magic will begin to falter if a caster attempts to string more than three, four words into a spell.both Second and Third Form magic still operate via incantations - the only difference from the First, is that they both instead use the original, primordial language of the Divine. Second Form magic is the use of only a single word as an incantation - and even this ought to be significantly more potent than any First Form spell. “ice” will instead become “pyrl”, whilst “fire” becomes “dia” - the primary difference between the two being a sheer difference in potency, at a far greater cost of mana.finally, Third Form magic involves phrases, and sentences. this is the highest form of casting known, and is also the most open ended of the three. there is no limit on how many words a caster can string together - other than the magical energy that is available to them. “let ice consume my enemies” translates to “yu pyrl sonoa quo fousten.”, and will typically call forth a glacial explosion of ice. Third Form magic is limited primarily by the mana available, but also by the caster’s knowledge on vocabulary - the Divine language is long since dead, and even the most experienced scholars in the matter would know no more than a six year old child would know their own language.lastly, there exists a Fourth, and thought to be final Form - though it is not included in most discussion of the other three, due to its nature. any creature which still possesses magical circuits, be they atrophied or open, will find themselves blessed with a unique, accessible spell at the age of fourteen. it is a culmination of their ideals, beliefs, and aspirations given ‘physical’ form - and can be used regardless of wether or not you have opened your magical circuits. the Fourth Form is a determining feature in an individuals life - it may come in the form of something minor, or something unfathomably major, ‘tis simply luck of the draw - though is also heavily influenced by one’s conviction. speaking frankly for a moment, this is your opportunity to make a unique, interesting spell you - and only you - can use. so long as you can justify why your character would gain such a power, go wild. we’ve already got people manipulating space, circumstantial invincibility, and the like - nothing is too crazy.now, what if I told you there exists a Fifth Form? hah, just kidding.. maybe.
applications and rules.
if you’re looking to join the verse, great! it’s always welcome to new faces - here is where you’ll be walked through all of the ooc information.the rules are simple enough - racism, homophobia, transphobia will not be tolerated. respect your fellow writers - “it was a joke” never is, and never will be, a suitable excuse.don’t go jumping into other people’s threads. it’s a wonder I have to say this, but you’d be surprised. additionally, no godmodding - be it in a fight or not, taking control of someone else’s character is strictly forbidden - unless the character’s writer has agreed to such a thing.Yūyake is meant to be a story focused, serious verse. this means that, whilst I have no issues with anyone writing lewd, the priority ought to remain on moving the narrative.and lastly, please contact me on @__WXLF for any questions, concerns or the like you may have. this community is intended to be a safe, comfortable space to write in - if anyone is disturbing that, let me know! that said, any action regarding warnings or removal or a writer is to be discussed among myself and others. no one person is to have a final, definitive say outside of specific matters - not even myself.boring stuff aside, what’s say I run you through the application process? in all honesty, this is a formality - I’m not going to turn anyone down, odds are.
Character Creation.
oh boy, here we go.so long as your character fits the theme of a fantasy, demi-human nation, there aren’t too many restrictions in place - the biggest of which is that your character cannot, under any circumstances, be human. demihumans are the best fit for the verse - but it isn’t unheard of to observe elves, dwarves, halflings and so on within Yūyake - simply keep in mind that they are rare.now, the verse has a focus on combat, and gritty themes - for this reason, I point most people towards making a member of the Adventurers Guild for their first character, or even the Royal Guard as to not miss out on any potential events. of course, this doesn’t mean you /have/ to do so - if your wish is to make a shopkeeper or even a simple civilian, go right ahead!if you’ve ever got any questions, you’re welcome to come bug me - I’m here to do what I can to help, after all!now, please fill out the following information:— character name.
— character age.
— character gender.
— character race (or what animal they’re based around, if demihuman).
— their role in the world. are they an adventurer? a knight? a merchant?
— what kind of magic can they access, if any? what’s their Fourth Form?
— what should I address you, as a writer, by ooc?
— and most importantly, how open are you to your character being harmed, if not permanently maimed, even killed? death will be a /very/ rare occurrence and will ultimately be decided by you.
— and lastly.. are you ready to get writing??
